Political Memorabilia

Political campaign memorabilia and commemorative items were all the rage in the early 1900's. We look forward to bringing you more photos and history of these items through the generosity of many private collectors.

The Theodore Roosevelt Association

The man on the button with TR (left) is Leslie Shaw, TR’s Secretary of the Treasury, who was from Denison, Iowa. It's a very rare pin, because TR never made it to the event in Denison. TR got sick on train on the way out and had to go back to Washington. Collectors for years have wondered who this person was on the button. The owner tracked it down by e-mailing a bed and breakfast owner in Denison who has a Roosevelt room in her B&B. Turns out TR came out the following year and stayed in that house. The owner recognized the man in the photo because she had a photo of him with TR.
