Theodore Roosevelt Book Prize Winner for 2024

The Loves of Theodore Roosevelt: The Women Who Created a PresidentThe Theodore Roosevelt Association is proud to announce this year’s winner of the Theodore Roosevelt Association Book Prize: Edward F. O’Keefe’s The Loves of Theodore Roosevelt: The Women Who Created a President (Simon & Schuster, 2024). The book prize recognizes the year's most significant published book focused primarily or substantially on Theodore Roosevelt.

Edward F. O’Keefe is the CEO of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library Foundation. He previously spent two decades in broadcast and digital media, during which time he received a Primetime Emmy Award for his work with Anthony Bourdain, two Webby Awards, the Edward R. Murrow Award, and a George Foster Peabody Award for ABC News coverage of 9/11. A former fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School, he graduated with honors from Georgetown University. He was born in North Dakota and lives in New York with his wife, daughter, and son.

The Loves of Theodore Roosevelt provides a compelling examination of the women that influenced one of our greatest presidents. TR’s sisters and his wives profoundly shaped Roosevelt’s development and his contributions as a public servant. O’Keefe’s work is an important contribution to Theodore Roosevelt historiography, and, more broadly, his book is an example of the advantages of re-examining our most popular historical figures beyond the “self-made” narrative.

"As someone who grew up inspired by Theodore Roosevelt's legacy, it is an honor to be recognized by the Theodore Roosevelt Association for The Loves of Theodore Roosevelt," said Edward F. O'Keefe. "It is a tribute to the extraordinary women who shaped Roosevelt's character and instilled in him the courage and resilience he needed to lead."

The Theodore Roosevelt Association, headquartered in Oyster Bay, New York, is a national nonprofit and nonpartisan organization chartered by an act of Congress in 1920 to perpetuate the memory and ideals of America's twenty-sixth President.

The prize will be presented at the annual meeting of the Theodore Roosevelt Association at Hyde Park, NY at the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Presidential Library in October 2025.
