Police Awards

From investigating traffic accidents and breaking up criminal gangs to executing arrest warrants and pulling crash victims from cars, law enforcement officers have wide-ranging roles and keep our communities running safely.

They also put themselves in harm’s way every day. Yet even after injury or illness, cops want to keep at it, the jobs they’re committed to and can’t imagine not doing. Theodore Roosevelt Association Police Awards honor these hometown heroes who experience serious injuries or illnesses but continue to render praiseworthy service to their departments.

The TRA in 1983 established the Theodore Roosevelt Association Police Awards in New York City to honor TR’s distinguished service as president of the Board of Police Commissioners of New York City from 1895 to 1897, and in recognition of his enduring admiration for the police. He rose to that post—and a life of public service—after overcoming debilitating illness in his youth.

In the ensuing decades, more than 150 officers from 13 communities have been honored with Theodore Roosevelt Association Police Awards. We salute these courageous and dedicated public servants.
