Birding with Theodore Roosevelt

Theodore Roosevelt was a life-long bird watcher. Although he studied birds around the world, he loved the birds which shared Sagamore Hill with him in Oyster Bay.
On June 7, 2025 the TRA will be hosting the Birding with Theodore Roosevelt adventure with our partners the Theodore Roosevelt Bird Sanctuary and Audubon Center and Sagamore Hill National Historic Site.
We will spend the day with Kenn Kaufman, one of the country’s leading birders, The New York Times bestselling author and current Field Editor for Audubon magazine. This event will include: a guided bird walk in the morning at the Theodore Roosevelt Bird Sanctuary and Audubon Center, which is our country’s first National Audubon Society songbird sanctuary.

From there we will have a private tour of TRs home Sagamore Hill and a visit to the Old Orchard Museum (Theodore Roosevelt Jr.’s former home). We’ll have a picnic lunch with a presentation by Kenn Kaufman on the birds of Long Island and TR. The day will end with an afternoon walk around the grounds of Sagamore Hill with Kenn helping us identify some of the birds so loved by Theodore Roosevelt.
