Long Island Warriors Veteran Hockey Team Supports the Theodore Roosevelt Association’s Teddy Bears for Kids program with a delivery of more than 100 teddy bears to Stony Brook Children’s Hospital

On August 16, 2026 members of the Long Island Warriors Veterans Hockey Team joined the Theodore Roosevelt Association (TRA) to deliver more than 100 teddy bears to children at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, bringing comfort and smiles to young patients.
The bears were collected during a Teddy Bear Toss at a youth game during the 2026 LI Warriors Shootout on August 8th. When Ethan Sweeney scored the goal that triggered the toss, fans sent more than 100 teddy bears flying onto the ice.
Eight days later, Sweeney joined members of the Long Island Warriors and TRA Executive Director Chris Cosentino to deliver the bears to Stony Brook Children’s Hospital. Upon arriving, the group was greeted by Stony Brook Children’s Hospital Child Life Specialist Sarah Schoepp, who welcomed the group and received the bears on behalf of the hospital’s young patients.
Since 1986, the Theodore Roosevelt Association Teddy Bears for Kids Program has delivered more than 90,000 teddy bears to children in hospitals across the United States. Inspired by the enduring connection between Theodore Roosevelt and the teddy bear, the program provides hospitalized children with a comforting companion and a reminder that their community is thinking of them.
The Long Island Warriors is a nonprofit, volunteer-run program providing hockey opportunities for military veterans, active-duty personnel, and reservists on Long Island.
On September 14th, the Theodore Roosevelt Association will honor the Long Island Warriors at the TRA Big Stick Golf Outing for the team’s commitment to community, service, and advocacy.
