The Theodore Roosevelt Association’s Junior Officer of the Year Award honors the spirit of leadership, integrity, and service that defined Theodore Roosevelt’s life and legacy. Established in 1992, the award recognizes junior officers serving aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN‑71) who best exemplify the values Roosevelt championed—courage, professionalism, pride, and dedication to duty.
Presented annually aboard the ship, this award highlights officers who demonstrate outstanding performance, inspire their crew through character and commitment, and embody the same sense of purpose and honor Roosevelt brought to every challenge.
Through this tradition, the Theodore Roosevelt Association not only celebrates exceptional naval leadership but also reinforces the enduring bond between the Association, the U.S. Navy, and the ship that bears Roosevelt’s name—The Big Stick.
