103rd Annual Meeting of the Theodore Roosevelt Association

In partnership with the The Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site, the 103rd Annual Meeting and Gala Fundraising Dinner of the Theodore Roosevelt Association will take place in Buffalo, New York on October 14-16, 2022

THEODORE ROOSEVELT IN BUFFALO, AND HIS EARLY PRESIDENCY

The two-part theme for the 103rd Annual Meeting of the Theodore Roosevelt Association is “Theodore Roosevelt in Buffalo, and His Early Presidency.” TR’s significant connections to Buffalo will be in evidence throughout the weekend, particularly in the presentations by Stanton Hudson, Lenora Henson, and Governor Kathy Hochul, herself a native of Buffalo, and in Sunday’s tour of the TR Inaugural Site. And the very eventful and impressively successful early period (through 1902) of TR’s presidency (which began in Buffalo on September 14, 1901) will be in focus in the presentations of William Tilchin and Michelle Krowl.

Join us for our weekend events

Forest Lawn Cemetery

Our weekend events start on Friday morning with a tour of the beautiful, nationally significant and historic Forest Lawn Cemetery. It is the first deliberately 269-acre landscaped green space in Western New York and is the final resting place for a US President and many American innovators.
Terrace at Delaware Park

Our morning wraps up with a wonderful lunch at the Terrace at Delaware Park restaurant, with attendees having the afternoon free.
Buffalo History Museum

We will then tour the Buffalo History Museum with curator Anthony Greco who will give a presentation on “Lights and Legacy: Buffalo’s Pan American Exposition”
Buffalo Club

The evening will be capped off with cocktails and dinner at the historic Buffalo Club where our guest speaker will be none other than President Theodore Roosevelt himself, portrayed by actor, TR historian, and longtime friend of the TRA, Joe Wiegand.
Buffalo Niagara Convention CenterThe Buffalo Niagara Convention Center will host all of our events on Saturday, starting with the Symposium with speakers Stanton H. Hudson, Jr., William N. Tilchin and Lenora Henson. Our luncheon has the Theodore Roosevelt Book Awards and a special guest speaker, historian/author Douglas Brinkley, who is our 2022 Medal of Honor recipient. The TRA’s Gala Fundraising Cocktail Reception and Dinner features keynote speaker Governor Kathy Hochul, New York’s first female governor and strong supporter and friend of our host, the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural NHS.
Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural NHSThe weekend wraps up on Sunday with an optional brunch at the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural NHS. Our guest speaker will be  archivist, Michelle A. Krowl from the Library of Congress who will give a special and timely presentation on President Roosevelt’s letter to Booker T. Washington inviting him to the historic dinner meeting at the White House. By the way, the dinner took place on October 16, 1901, exactly 121 years ago to the day of this upcoming presentation
